Here's a fun idea. I'm running into some sort of block so I figure that you guys might be able to help break out of it.

Tell me what to draw and I'll sketch it out. I'll draw anything.

Here's another idea. I am sick of the music I hear all the time, I always feel that I need to expand myself and introduce myself to new music.

So you guys decide what songs I should listen to (while I draw) and I'll look it up on youtube for us to listen to.

In case no one watches me from Tumblr, I would just like to announce that I have returned. I got my laptop back from the repairs and I've already installed the programs I needed to get by. Unfortunately I was unable to recover my files so I'm afraid they are lost forever. At least I learned to invest in a backup next time.

I'd make a list of all the files I lost but this will end up becoming another depressing post and I'd rather avoid that. I'm really happy a lot of people showed concerned for me. Thank you for the comments earlier. I'm sorry I wasn't able to reply to all of them but I really appreciate it. I love you guys~

But moving on let me tell you some of my events recently.

Last week I went to an art show with my friend Kaitlin and met the amazing Stephen Silver. It was sort of organized as a regular figure drawing class except we were drawing the figure of a great model. He was very nice. I shook hands with him and had him sign my sketchbook. He even glanced through and said I was really good at inking so I was very honored.

Then yesterday night was really eventful. We drove to Beverly Hills and saw Stephen Merchant's stand-up show Hello Ladies, which was incredibly outstandingly hilarious. Honest to god my first time attending a stand-up and I laughed from the beginning to the end until I felt dehydrated.

Then after the show my friends and I waited outside until Steve came outside to sign, take pictures, and receive lovely gifts. I met a lot of nice people there, and some of them knew me from Tumblr strangely. I was lucky enough to shake his hand, compliment his performance, have him sign the back of my sketchbook (with a crap marker), and take a picture with him.

I also gave him my marker piece of the Ricky Gervais Show. You know, this one -->

He gave such an excellent performance so he deserved it. He was very sweet and I'm really he liked it. I wish him luck on his next performance in San Fransisco, which I think will conclude his entire tour.

So right now I hope to go to a party tonight and get drunk as I celebrate my last weekend of the break before my next semester starts. Looking forward to that...

I hope you guys are doing well~

My laptop had a beserk moment and it ended up erasing everything

Absolutely everything.

All of my files are gone and can never be recovered. Everything I worked for recently is all gone. Not even my backup can bring most of those files back.

The worst part is that most of my requested Holiday pictures were drawn digitally, and now they're long gone.

I hate this. This is the third time I've disappointment people with requests. I haven't a clue how in the world I'll make up for this mess.

I know it feels senseless and and inane to whine over a laptop error. But as an artist, especially in the digital field, this depresses me greatly. And I know you guys must be really disappointed. I don't blame you.

I try to update with marker illustrations but I am so sorry.

What a great way to start the new year.

I am very, very, very, very, very, very, very sorry~

~Sandra Rivas

*And here's the irony, yesterday I was wishing myself good luck. I'm going to laugh and probably cry myself to sleep

Edit: Thank you so much for the lovely and thoughtful comments. I'm pretty devastated but I am trying to regain my lost files using TestDisk. I hope this works because I really want to return to entertaining you all. You guys are my main motivation and I am forever grateful for your support and feedback, whether it's a simple compliment or even a critic. I will try my best to fix this. Here's to hoping~

Edit Edit: Okay, update. My laptop instantly crashed and I had to take to Best Buys to have it repaired. I will be without internet for a couple days (if not a week), unless I use my dad's laptop, which will happen once in a while. And about recovering my files, probably won't happen. At least I tried~

Seems like it. I've had it for over 5 years so it was a good run. I'll probably buy another membership later on.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I had received a set of 72 Prismacolor markers, the greatest gift of the year. So basically I spent my time finishing the cards (that I will mail or hand in person) using those wonderful babies. And 72 is just a start. I plan to collect more markers, including Copics since they have a set of skin tone markers.

My dad also gave me The Ricky Gervais Show Animated Series, my favorite cartoon. It was very thoughtful, even though I was with him when he was buying me that DVD since he had no idea what to get for me. My mom and my brother also bought me Super Mario Land 3D, which means I'll have to neglect Zelda (again). I'm horrible at the game Zelda anyway, in fact my 10-year old brother plays far better than I do. He doesn't even need walkthroughs, unlike me.

My brother got the Ipod touch for Christmas, which is very cool. At first I was thinking of selling my 3DS (my brother has his own anyway) and using the money to purchase myself a Ipod Touch, until I remembered that Luigi's Mansion 2 would be released soon (along with Paper Mario) so I guess that won't be happening. I've always been behind on technology anyway so buy the time I purchase an Ipod Touch, Apple will have already come up with the Ipod Touch 7.

I'm thankful for all the gifts I have received this year. Even the smallest gifts such as an iTunes cards made me smile, since I have used it already on new music and some Ricky Gervais Show audio recordings. I know the economy has been rough on us recently but it makes me happy knowing we can still manage through it.

And to everyone who were amazing enough to make me Christmas cards/pictures:
(I'm 89 )

Thank you all so much! I find it sweet knowing that some people care about little ol' me. I love you all~

In other news, I bought tickets for Stephen Merchant's stand up show in January at LA for my friend Kaitlin and myself. I've never been to a stand up before (technically I wanted to wait for Demetri Martin) and I've caught some of his gigs on youtube so I'm pretty excited.

I hope everyone has an exciting New Year. I'll be playing around with my markers and finishing the cards but I'll try to not to be absent as much. I might even return to MSN, AIM, and Skype so watch out.

Happy Holidays!!

Christmas Card Update

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 23, 2011, 1:30 PM
I'm just gonna cut straight through it: I've finished the requested ones and I'm making over 20 cards for a lot of my friends. I wanted to make a couple but I guess I went overboard while intoxicated with the "Season of Giving" energy.

For those who will be receiving it by mail will receive theirs a little late. I'm really sorry but something came up and I decided to make a couple changes in the last minutes, alongside with personal errands.

Oh man I hope to finish by tomorrow. I wish I was faster so I could give each and everyone a card

Gotta get back to work! Wish me luck! Here I go!~

The Muppets Movie

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 24, 2011, 1:05 PM
I loved it so much! I'm just gonna go straight to it!!

I'm actually willing to let go of the fact that the Swedish Chef did not get his usual skit in the movie. He had other big parts so I'm happy enough. I think I'm getting the feeling that his skit might have been offensive or something. He's my favorite character by the way.

But anyway I loved it! It's one of the only Muppets movies I enjoyed. The songs are enjoyable, it's funny from the beginning to the end, the celebrity cameo appearances are brilliant!! I am so glad I kept up with current shows!

I loved how the movie was not to be taken seriously. They probably realized that Muppets and serious stories don't go together. They already tried that in their previous movies and didn't go as great.

There's so much more to talk about but I want to spoil it! All I can say is that it's great and Jason Segel is a terrific writer and actor! This is why I keep on watching How I Met Your Mother!

So excited and inspired!!!

Surprise

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 18, 2011, 8:52 AM
Okay this journal is a bit depressing and let me change the subject

I have got a surprise for you guys. It involves my two amazingly talented buddies :iconnikkinack: and :iconmikehorowitz: and this Portal comic that you guys love so much --> [link]. Or if you didn't like it, then those guys will make it look 10 times better.

Look forward to it in about a month or so. ;D

Also I was ill yesterday but now I feel a whole lot better now. Okay back to work.

EDIT: I got to see Jim Smith (one of the main artist behind Ren & Stimpy) again yesterday. He came by at the university to give a lecture about the importance of visual gags, which was extremely education.

So I got the courage to talk to him again and I showed him my drawings and asked him to give critiques. They were very helpful. It's nice to get advise from the professionals, especially from artists like Jim Smith since he's one of my favorites. I felt like such a nervous dork.

He basically pointed out that I need to practice more construction and always be careful on my negative space. It's very true. When I make quick drawings, I always forget my negative space and sometimes abandon the solidity of the form, so the character would end up like it's melting and cramped.

He did say that I understand the line of action so it was really cool. He also pointed out that I draw good hands, which is weird because I never thought so.

So right now I'm practicing on understanding more of solidity and being more careful on my negative space.

So yeah that's it BYE

Unfunny and Boring Thoughts

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 13, 2011, 8:38 PM
1) I'm not gonna lie. Some days I feel depressed because I'm not 19 or younger. I was a huge slacker in high school and I wasn't too proud of my drawings back then. I'm glad I've progressed but sometimes I wonder what if I knew better. I feel behind when I see better artists that are younger than 18. I am proud that I've made over 30 pictures (that I actually don't hate) before I reached the big "21". Feel free to say that I'm wrong but I don't think 21 is considered young.

2) I wish I was a faster artist. I see other artists that can make a masterpiece in like an hour but it takes me more than that. I need to exercise my hands and get to it. I would really love to make a great picture in like 30 minutes. That's a dream indeed.

3) Right now I'm a stage where I don't want to discuss high school right now. I was a huge bummer who tried to be cool. Don't worry though, when I'm 30 I'll look back and laugh at how much of a dork I was.

4) I really need to animate. I was asked to participate in a project but I needed to show an animation reel. I was a bit embarrassed to reply that I only had an art portfolio. People look at my art and automatically assume that I have animations, and yeah I agree. I need to bring my drawings to life.

5) I really wish I had money so I could afford some markers and get on it hardcore style. If I had a cintiq, I would definitely be more productive. If you guys feel sorry for me, then you can help by clicking on the link below for commissions. You guys would be doing me a favor. Who knows? I may even save enough to go to San Diego Comic Con for the first time? Can you believe it? 21 years old and I've never even been to a Comic Con. How pathetic is that? Let's change that. Give me money so I can produce a drawing for you.

6) IneedtostopcomparingmyseftootherpeopleGOD

Okay I'm done now. No more depressing posts

Edit: Thanks for the love, guys, but just to clarify, I'm not depressed. These are just thoughts I have occasionally. I am very happy. In fact, regarding #2, I am becoming a faster artist that I give myself credit. The more I improve, the faster I become, which is great of course.

But it's nice to know you guys care for little ol' me. Thanks you :]

Birthdays

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 1, 2011, 7:12 PM
Mine will be on the 7th this month....... on a Friday..... yup.......

I should be excited but I'm not since I've had such a work overload so far, including projects I haven't finished since the summer. I don't have time to be happy at the fact that I'll be turning 21. Thank god for my family who's been making the time for me. I can't wait to see them on Friday

I'd rather save the excitement for my friend Alisa :iconphoenixpen: who will be turning 20 on the 14th this month

Also it's Walt Disney World's birthday! That's more important! I miss working there.

Ugggghhhh I wish I wasn't so busy!

okay I'm done now
